At North Star Vascular & Interventional, we treat varicose and spider veins using modern, minimally invasive techniques—no surgery required.

If you’re bothered by the look or discomfort of visible veins, our doctors can help you understand your options and design a treatment plan tailored to you.

varicose vein treatment

Our vein disease and varicose vein treatment options include:

VenaSeal™ Closure System

A gentle, innovative way to seal diseased veins

VenaSeal™ is a breakthrough, non-thermal treatment that uses a safe medical adhesive to close off problem veins. Once sealed, the vein naturally absorbs into your body over time.

Because no heat or tumescent anesthesia is used, there’s less discomfort and virtually no risk of skin burns or nerve injury. Most patients return to normal activity right away—no compression stockings or downtime needed.

Key benefits:

  • No heat or needles along the vein
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Immediate symptom relief for many patients
  • Walk-in, walk-out procedure

Sclerotherapy

The gold standard for surface veins and spider veins

Sclerotherapy is a simple, in-office treatment that targets small surface veins and spider veins. A small amount of solution—called a sclerosant—is injected directly into the vein, causing it to collapse and fade over the next few weeks.

This treatment is quick, safe, and highly effective for cosmetic improvement and minor symptoms like itching or mild aching.

  • Fast and easy treatment (usually 30 minutes or less)
  • No anesthesia required
  • Noticeable cosmetic improvement within weeks
  • Affordable and well-tolerated

Spider Vein Treatment

For clearer, healthier-looking legs

Spider veins are tiny, visible veins that often appear red, blue, or purple. They can develop due to genetics, pregnancy, hormonal changes, or prolonged standing.

At North Star, spider veins are usually treated with sclerotherapy, and sometimes in combination with other minimally invasive options. We’ll help determine the best approach for your skin type and goals.

Preparing for Your Vein Treatment

To ensure a safe and smooth procedure, please review the following instructions before your visit. Your care team will also review these details with you at your consultation.

  • Compression stockings:
Many insurance plans require a trial of medical-grade compression stockings for several months before covering vein treatment. If you haven’t already completed this, our team can guide you through the process.
  • Allergies:
Let us know if you have any allergies—especially to skin adhesives, local anesthetics, or medications used during procedures.
  • Medications:
Unless you are instructed otherwise, continue taking your regular medications, including blood pressure medicines. You may take them with a small sip of water the morning of your procedure.
  • Fasting instructions:
Some procedures require that you avoid eating or drinking for several hours beforehand. We will give you specific instructions if this applies to your treatment.
  • Day of your procedure:
You will be given a gown to change into before the procedure. Most treatments are performed using local anesthesia only, and you will be awake and comfortable throughout.
  • After your procedure:
Most patients can walk immediately and return to normal activities—including work—the same day if no sedatives or anxiolytic medications were used.
Compression stockings are generally not required after VenaSeal or sclerotherapy unless otherwise recommended by your physician.
  • Observation:
In some cases, you may be asked to remain for a short observation period before leaving the clinic to ensure you feel well.
